Details :
Principles of
Operation :
When used as an
emergency breathing system (EBS), the ExtendAire System enables
a firefighter with depleated air supply to breathe from the air
cylinder of a fellow firefighter. By coupling the system's
40-inch rescue hose between SCBA, both firefighters can receive
intermediate pressure air for emergency escape.
The ExtendAire System also doubles as a Dual-Purpose device to
allow firefighters to quickly and easily connect to an air-line.
Approvals & Standards :
An MSA MMR Air
Mask equipped with the ExtendAire System is jointly approved by
the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and the
National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH),
and is NFPA-compliant even when used in the Dual-Purpose mode.
However, during use of the EBS component, NIOSH/MSHA Approvals
are voided, due to the users being connected during escape.
Users must excercise care while maneuvering during escape.
Failure to do so can result in serious personal injury or death.
